Event Battle of Williamsburg
Provenance Union General George Stoneman gave this humidor and cigar cup to Thomas Louis Whiting. Whiting was the first man of his cmpany to be wounded in the battle of Williamsburg, and he lay for 3 days & nights on the battlefield, was captured on May 5, 1862 and was sent to U. S. General Hospital in Washington, D.C. on May 17. He was held as a prisoner of war for three months until being exchanged on September 21, 1862.
