Description The splint is a slightly rounded piece of pine or bass wood with a knot hole in the upper left. Written in pencil on the wood is "Wounded June 29, 1864 at the Battle of Reams Station, Va. This was the 5th and last time wounded during the War between the States - this Splint was used on the leg of G. N. Truss - Co. E 10th Alabama [Infty]."

Event First Battle of Ream's Station
Provenance George Nash Truss used this splint to stabilize a leg wound received at the Battle of Ream's Station on June 29, 1864. Truss served in Co. E, 10th Alabama Infantry. He was wounded in five separate battles, with this being the fifth and final wound. The other battles were: Gaines Mill; Fredericksburg; the Wilderness; and Gettysburg.
