Description The commemorative medal is a silver or silver-plated disc. The obverse shows a relief image of a tall obelisk shaped monument in a park setting. Raised lettering along the outer perimeter above the image reads, "NEW ORLEANS / FEB. 22, 1884." The reverse has a outer perimeter relief image of a laurel wreath. Raised lettering in the center reads, "SOUVENIR / UNVEILING OF STATUE / GEN. ROBERT E. LEE / FEB. 22, 1884 / BORN JAN. 19, 1807 / DIED OCT. 12, 1870." The medal came in a black leatherette case (219b) with a brass clip closure and lined with black velvet; the center section has a cut-out to hold the medal. A paper label is adhered to the inside top of the case and has the following printed in black, "The / Mary De Renne / Confederate Collection."
