"This flag was made by the ladies of Mobile for my headquarters flag, and after the battle of Mobile (12 April 1865) was brought off with the army of Mobile with headquarters April 12 1865."

"Confederate battle flag made by the ladies of Mobile - brought away with us when on April 12 1865 we marched out of that place after having held it 3 weeks against Canby's army of 60,000 men and the fleet of Admiral Farragut. We had only 4,500 men left."
