|Provenance||1st Lt. William Frederick Gunn wore this pair of epaulets. He enlisted in Co. G, 15th Virginia Infantry, "Southern Guard" (Henrico County) on April 22, 1861 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Gunn was promoted to 1st Lt. on September 18, 1861. He was dropped at the unit's reorganization and transferred to Rives Battery in the Nelson Artillery as 2nd Lt. Gunn commanded Section A of Rives Battery in January 1865.|
