Owned unidentified Confederate soldier; Rosa Dienstbach Teuscher
Event Carolinas Campaign
Provenance An unknown Confederate soldier gave this red pincushion to Rosa Dienstbach Teuscher (1849-1934) as she stood on the street in front of her home in Fayetteville, North Carolina, handing out fried sweet potatoes to retreating soldiers of Hardee's Corps, shortly before the end of the war. (This was likely in March 1865, as that is when Hardee's Corps passed through Fayetteville.)

"Given to my mother either in late 1864 or early 1865 by a soldier of Hardee's Army as they passed through Fayetteville and mother stood on the street before her home and passed out fried sweet potatoes to the very hungry troops." (donor letter)
