Description The box (A) is made of walnut and has one steel ring handle remaining. The other handle only has a fragment of the leather stirrup. The inner tray (B) has a notched divider placed closer to one side than the other and a dedication note is pasted on the bottom.

Provenance This box was sent to and used by Jefferson Davis while incarcerated at Fortress Monroe. "For Mr. Jefferson Davis/Prisoner/Fortress Monroe." The box contained pipe tobacco collected from the hills of South Western Virginia by the presenter.
