Description One of two scabbards: covered in shagreen with gilded brass mounts with knotted rope design, stylized dolphin drag, engraved on reverse near throat "Made by / Ames Mfg. Co. / Chicopee Mass." For sword (.780) with second scabbard (.780a), sword knot (.780c), and wooden presentation case (.780d).
Owner Regiment CSS Nashville
Provenance The Commonwealth of Virginia presented this sword and scabbards to Lt. Robert B. Pegram for gallant services rendered in the China Seas in August 1855. Lt. Pegram resigned from the U.S. Navy when the Civil War started and took command of the CSS Nashville.
