Description Model 1833 U.S. Dragoon Saber: slightly curved, single-edged blade with quill back, scribed near hilt obverse side "N.P. Ames/Cutler/Springfield/1838", engraved "United States" over floral spray on reverse blade, leather cushion; brass half-basket hilt consisting of two branches and knuckle bow and small oval branch forming a counter guard on the reverse side, quillon terminates in a disc stamped "WS" and "MPL/ORD"; wood grips covered with leather and wound with wire, brass ferrule and backstrap terminating in a stepped pommel. Browned steel scabbard (.770a) with lower suspension ring missing and large drag.
