Provenance A Missourian with Southern sympathies, John Duncan Holliday was imprisoned by the Federals in St. Louis. Upon exchange, he served with Guibor's Battery and Tilden's Missouri Battery and fought at the battles of Pea Ridge (Elkhorn Tavern) and Prairie Grove, Arkansas. Promoted to first lieutenant, Holliday served as ordnance officer for John C. Tappan's Brigade. He served in the Red River Campaign of 1864 and surrendered at Shreveport, Louisiana in June 1865.
