Object Name Medal, Commemorative

Description The commemorative medal has four parts: a pressed brass bar pin, another pressed brass bar, a short length of blue silk ribbon, and a round white metal pendant. The rectangular bar pin has an eagle with outspread wings stamped in the center. A clasp pin is soldered on the back. The blue ribbon hangs from the bar pin and supports the second pressed bar. "WE / MOURN / OUR / CHIEF" is printed in gold on the ribbon. The second pressed has a slot for the ribbon to pass through and a small loop on the bottom for the ring suspending the pendant. The obverse of the silver pendant has relief portrait of Jefferson Davis in the center with "JEFFERSON" in raised letters along the left edge and "DAVIS" in raised letters along the right edge. The reverse of the pendant has an image of the Gen. Robert E. Lee Equestrian Monument in relief in the center. "IN MEMORY OF ROBERT E. LEE THIS" is in raised letters along the left edge. "STATUE WAS UNVEILED MAY 29, 1890" is in raised letters along the right edge.
