Description Model 1850 U.S. Foot Officer's Sword: slightly curved, single-edged blade with two fullers; gilded brass hilt with guard decorated with pierced design of floral sprays, knuckle bow pierced for sword knot near pommel which is decorated on forward edge with leaves; wood grip covered with shagreen and twisted wire. Leather scabbard (.194a) with brass mounts; throat and drag missing.

Event Battle of Savage's Station
Provenance Capt. Martin W. Hazelwood retrieved this sword and scabbard from the battlefield at Savage's Station, June 29, 1862. He carried them for the duration of the war until Lee's surrender at Appomattox Courthouse.
