Description Vest of steel gray wool cloth with stand up collar, three pockets, buff wool broadcloth piping on collar, front opening, waist pocket flaps and beast welted pocket edge; back of brown cotton silesia with cinch belt and metal buckle; lining of white cotton sheeting, nine button front (buttons missing). Associated with naval jacket (0985.13.71).

Provenance Robert Dabney Minor wore the blue jacket [0985.13.71] and vest while serving as a flag lieutenant of the CSS Virginia (Merrimac) at the battle of Hampton Roads, Virginia, March 8, 1862. He was wearing the jacket when he was wounded by small arms fire while preparing to accept the surrender of the USS Congress.
