Description Model 1850 U.S. Foot Officer Sword: slightly curved blade with barely discernible etching, inscribed "Manufacture [L ? ]du bas rhim"; brass hilt with guard pieced by floral sprays; knuckle bow pierced for sword knot near pommel which is decorated along forward edge with leaves; wooden grip covered in shagreen and wound with brass wire. Leather scabbard (.420a) with brass mounts.

Provenance Sword and scabbard owned by Capt. William A. Wright, Co. F, 55th Virginia Infantry, "Essex Sharpshooters." A ball passed through his body and canteen when he was killed at Frazier's Farm after taking a Federal battery of five artillery pieces on top of the hill, June 30, 1862.
