Provenance Gen. Joseph E. Johnston wore this pair of gauntlets while commanding the Confederate Army. Given to Colonel Benjamin Ewell when Gen. Johnston was retired from the command in Georgia. (Note: Richard S. Ewell is sometimes listed as the second owner, although this is corrected in some provenance and is believed wrong. Benjamin served as Johnston's chief of staff during the war and would have been with him at the time of his retirement.)
