Object Name INSIGNIA
Catalog Number 0985.03.00207
Description The insignia consists of a gold thread wreath surrounding the number "10," applied to a piece of blue wool. Two sides have cotton hem stitches.
Dimensions W-2.5 L-2.25 inches
Owned Edward H. Hall
Owner Regiment 2nd Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters, Co. C
1st Georgia Infantry, Co. D
10th Georgia Infantry
Event Battle of Murfreesboro / Stones River
Provenance This was donated as the "Ornament from cap of color bearer Hall, Company D 1st Reg GA". It is not listed in the 1898 or 1905 catalogs. The direct connection to Sgt. Edward H. Hall is unknown -- possibly it was assumed to be his, as he was a Georgia color bearer with other items in the collection; or the Georgia Room regent may have known it was Edward's. It seems more likely that it belonged to another color bearer named Hall from Georgia, as Edward did not serve in Co. D, 1st Georgia Infantry; possibly it was Albert G. Hall, who served in Co. D, 1st Georgia Infantry, but is not known to have been a color bearer. It is also noteworthy that the numeral "10" on the insignia suggests it was worn by someone in the 10th, rather than the 1st, Georgia Infantry.
