Description Model 1840 U.S. Foot Officer's Sword. single-edged straight blade with single wide fuller etched with floral sprays, military trophies, eagle, "N.P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield", "Presented to Capt C. Dimmock by the members of the Va. State Guards Richmond 1847"; gilded brass hilt with kidney-shaped guard and hinged counter-guard, knuckle bow decorated with floral spay on either side of rosette and with rosette at junction with helmet-head pommel; German silver grip engraved with floral sprays, eagle, and military trophies. With scabbard (.743a) and sword knot (.743b).
