Description Model 1852 U. S. Naval Officer's sword; slightly curved, single edged blade, with two fullers and etched with stand of arms, shield and anchor, floral sprays, twisted rope, fouled anchor, eagle standing on cannon, and "U.S.N.", oval of stars and "Ames Mfg. Co./ Chicopee / Mass", leather cushion; gilded hilt with guard decorated with oak leaves and "USN" in ribbon, knuckle bow with cast stylized dolphin's head pierced for sword knot near pommel, quillon terminates in stylized dolphin's head; shagreen grip with twisted wire, forward end of pommel decorated in oak leaves, pommel cap with cast eagle and stars. Leather scabbard (.50a) and sword knot (.50b).
