Event Battle of Seven Pines / Fair Oaks
Provenance A hand gun owned by Eugene Fredrick Lykes, who wore it from the beginning of the Civil War to the Battle of Seven Pines, where he was mortally wounded. After receiving his wound, Lykes loaned this weapon to a comrade, but requested his surgeon retrieve it and send it home to his father, Frederick Lykes in Hernando County, Florida. [It seems this was done, as the revolver was donated to the museum by his brother, Howell Tyson Lykes. Their father Frederick died in 1876.]
