Object Name Sling, Shoulder

Description Carbine shoulder sling made of white cotton strap; sewn with white thread along long sides on reverse, and brown thread along long sides on obverse. There is a large steel hook on one end (thin piece of metal looped into hook), and at the other end the cotton strap is looped back upon itself with a leather band sewn around it. A leather strap (8" L x 7/8" W) is attached to the obverse; it is pierced with four holes, approximately 1.5" apart, and sewn to cotton strap on either end.

Provenance This strap is believed to be a carbine sling, issued for cavalry use by the Confederacy. This particular carbine sling was found in a Philadelphia gun shop in April 1958.
