Description The secession badge is a green silk rosette with three small prickly cone (or pinecone) seed pods sewn to the center. The center rosette is created with silk ribbon sewn into odd knife pleats. Single remaining ribbon streamer below; evidence of one or two others, since broken off. Sewn to paper backing.

Provenance One of three secession badges (.63, .64, .65) sent to Miss Hartley Graham by Mr. McPeake from Wilmington, North Carolina in December 1860. The calling card attached to the badges (donated with them also; stored in object file) reads: obverse: "Wilmington N.C. / Dec. 1860"; reverse: "Mr. McPeake hopes Miss Graham will forgive his seeming neglect in not sending the cockades sooner _______."
