The coconut carved bowl was made by a Confederate soldier POW, Joe Green, while he was imprisoned at Point Lookout Military Prison in Maryland. It was intended for and given to his cousin, Anna.
The donor of this item is recorded as Mrs. Stirling Murray of Leesburg, Virginia. The wife of a Stirling Murray married a woman named Anna Thornton Miller, of Washington D.C. It is believed the donor was also the receipient.
