Description Pattern 1822 Light Cavalry / Artillery Officer's Sword; single-edged blade with false edge and quill back, etched with floral sprays, military trophies, shield with "US", eagle, Indian, and "C.T." within wreath; steel half-basket hilt with two branches and knuckle bow and open oval counter-guard decorated with incised lines, quillon ends in forward curving disc, knuckle bow pierced for sword knot; stepped bird's head pommel flows into backstrap; wooden grip with shagreen cover and twisted wire wrap with ferrule at forward end. Leather scabbard (.323a) with brass mounts, "Captured on Frazier's Farm 30th June 1862 Col. W.A. / Gilliam, S.C." in white paint on scabbard.
