|Provenance||This is the regimental uniform from 1860-61 of the 1st Virginia Volunteers, of which Francis West's unit, the Richmond City Guard, was part. A carpenter by trade, he enlisted at age twenty in Co. B, 1st Virginia Infantry, on April 21, 1861. He was listed as absent due to sickness in Richmond during August 1861. West died of a brain fever on June 30, 1862.|
