Description Vest of blue wool and coton cloth (jean) with shawl colar; five button front (buttons missing); white cotton lining; brown polished cotton back with cinch belt and brass buckle. Part of homespun suit [frock coat (.501) and trousers (.501a)], made of coarse blue fabric that may contain hair as well as cotton and wool fibers.

Provenance This homespun suit was made by the slaves of A. J. Grayson of Bland County, Virginia. Captain Andrew Jackson Grayson volunteered in May 1861, at Bland Courthouse, where he organized the Bland Sharpshooters. The sharpshooters later became Co. F, 45th Virginia Infantry.
