According to the donor, these buttons are from the uniform of Major General James Patton Anderson. Cut from his coat by order of the US Government, 1865.
However, the Florida State Seal depicted on the button was adopted in 1868, and was not in use during the American Civil War. Therefore, the history of these buttons being associated with the war is believed to be erroneous
