Description One of two scabbards: gilded brass with three suspension rings, applied German silver American eagle, fouled anchor and floral sprays, engraved with military trophies, stylized dolphin drag, engraved on reverse near throat "Made by / Ames Mfg. Co. / Chicopee / Mass." For sword (.780) with second scabbard (.780b), sword knot (.780c), and wooden presentation case (.780d).

Provenance The Commonwealth of Virginia presented this sword and scabbards to Lt. Robert B. Pegram for gallant services rendered in the China Seas in August 1855. Lt. Pegram resigned from the U.S. Navy when the Civil War started and took command of the CSS Nashville.
