Description Uniform Frock coat: double breasted, 8 buttons in each row, steel gray wool broadcloth with light buff wool piping, no facings, dark green wool and silk lining in body, white cotton sheeting lining in sleeves; embroidered gold general's insignia backed in light buff twill, gold sleeve braid, Confederate staff buttons with CSA on shield, backmark: "RIVET'D & SOLDER'D" and "S. ISSACS CAMPBELL & CO./ST. JAMES. ST. LONDON"

Provenance Henery Clayton wore this coat sometime after his promotions to general in April 1863. It is believed he wore it at the Battle of Chickamauga, during the Atlanta Campaign and the Franklin-Nashville Campaign, and at the surrender at Bennett Place in North Carolina.
