Description Model 1850 U.S. Foot Officer's Sword: slightly curved, single-edged blade with two fullers, blade etched with floral sprays and military trophies, eagle and "US", "Ames Mfg. Co / Chicopee / Mass" on obverse ricasso; gilded brass hilt with guard decorated with pierced design of floral sprays and rosettes, knuckle bow pierced for sword knot near pommel which is decorated on forward edge with leaves; wood grip covered with shagreen and remains of twisted wire. Leather scabbard (.816a) with gilded brass mounts, "Ames Mfg Co / Chicopee / Mass" stamped on reverse of upper mount; remains of leather belt slings on both suspension rings.
