Provenance Capt. William H. Cleaver carried this hunting rifle. It was purchased in London, and used by Capt. Cleaver's father (also named William) in 1830. It was originally a long-barreled gun, but in 1861 it was modified by shortening the barrel, and a pair of pistols made from the cut off pieces. Shortened for use of cavalry officer.
