Provenance Possible history: "This walking stick made from the shattered flagstaff of Fort Sumter which was shot down during the first bombardment of the Yankees on the Fort. Lieut. Henry, a deacon of the Baptist Church in Charleston at the time was with Gen. Beauregard when the Flag fell. He had the cane made and presented to his particular friend, Mr. J. J. Toon, who was a prominent Baptist in Charleston at that time, and later for many years in Atlanta..." (This history belongs to a cane in the Georgia Collection. There do not seem to be any other possibilities, beyond an FIC cane; as this cane with no history was in the Georgia collection, it is believed to have this history. See file for paperwork.)
