Object Name Buckle, Belt
Catalog Number 0985.09.00181a
Description Militia two-piece gilded brass plate with "C. L. G." on tongue. Attached to belt (.181).
Owned owner/user unknown
Owner Regiment Gaston Light Guard (possible); 23rd Regiment North Carolina Troops, Co. H, "Gaston Guards" [later 13th Regiment North Carolina Volunteers] (possible)
Event Battle of New Bern
Provenance This belt and plate were received in a box with a uniform coat referred to as being worn by a drummer boy of the Gaston Light Guard of New Bern, North Carolina. The Gaston Light Guard was captured at New Bern. There is also a contradicting (probably incorrect) story that says the coat was from the Elk City Guard and appears to be styled from a pre-war Virginia militia garment.
