|Description||The large brass button consists of two pieces and was made of US Regulation General Staff. The button has a backmark - "EXTRA QUALITY." The button is attached to a card with a handwritten history. Also attached to the card is a small piece of red broadcloth (0985.10.42a). The back of the card has "Dr. J. W. Eggleston" printed on it.|

The button came from a coat worn by Sgt. J. W. Eggleston of Lamkins, Virginia at the Battle of Pocotaligo, South Carolina.
"Button and piece of English broadcloth worn by Sergeant J. W. Eggleston of Lamkins (VA). Battery at the battle of Yemassee Creek and Pocotaligo, South Carolina, October 22, 1862."
