Provenance General P. G. T. Beauregard used this campaign desk. He gave it to Major Joseph Mears, who had been the Surgeon on his staff; Mears was from Wilmington, North Carolina. Dr. Mears bequeathed the desk to his eldest son, where it remained for the next generation. Afterwards, it passed out of the family; the donor acquired the desk for preservation.
