Object Name Case, Field Glasses
Catalog Number 0985.13.00459a
Description Field glasses case covered in black leather. Manufacturer's name "C. DUHAMEL / OPTICIAN / NEW ORLEANS" stencilled in gold letters on top of case lid. Lid was previously hinged, now detached; formerly closed with metal clasp (upper portion on lid now missing); now closes with white chamois tape and white button (later replacements). Lined with pink / red velvet. For field glasses (.459a).

Provenance Col. William M. Bridges used these field glasses during the war. He commanded river batteries at Vicksburg, Mississippi, July 1863. The field glasses were captured from him and/ returned to him by the Union soldier sometime after the War.
