Description Model 1833 U.S. Dragoon Saber: slightly curved, single-edged blade with quill back, leather cushion; brass half-basket hilt consisting of two branches and knuckle bow and small oval branch forming a counter guard on the reverse side, leather strap tied to knuckle bow, quillon terminates in a disc stamped "HKC / ORD"; wood grips covered with leather and wound with wire, brass ferrule and backstrap terminating in a steeped stylized bird's head pommel. With scabbard (.164a).

Provenance Benjamin J. Johnson used this sword and scabbard. According to the donor, the scabbard is dented where Johnson fell on it when killed at the Battle of First Manassas. He was struck in the head by a cannon ball and was killed instantly.
