|Description||Goblet: One of a set of eight (8) matching goblets; each is made of red flashed glass with a floral band around the rim, fluted stem and a plain round foot.|
|Owned||Varina Banks Howell Davis; Edward V. Breeden|
Varina Howell Davis had placed the decanter (0985.7.170) and eight goblets for sale (probably on consignment) in a Richmond store prior to the fall Richmond. Glassware of this description was advertised for sale in the March 24, 1865 Richmond Whig. Mr. Edward Breeden purchased the decanter and goblets at the store, and sent the money directly to Mrs. Davis -- but kept the glassware.
"Mrs. Jefferson Davis sent to a store in Richmond on 14th St. some of her household articles late in the winter of 1865 to be sold. My husband, Edward Breeden, bought the decanter and goblets with other things, and sent the money for them directly to Mrs. Davis at the Executive Mansion." (donor statement)
