Provenance This gavel is made of wood from the tree under which General Turner Ashby fell while leading a charge near Harrisonburg, Virginia, June 6. 1862. With the gavel is a paper label certifying its authenticity over the signature of Ms. S. Alice Cowan of the Turner Ashby Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and A. M. Newman, Adj Gibbons Camp Confederate Veterans.
