Description Uniform frock coat: double breasted, 7 buttons on each row, cadet gray wool kersey with no facings or piping; brown, white, and black patterned cotton homespun lining in the body; brown cotton osnaburg lining in the sleeves; no collar insignia present; unusual single strand gold sleeve braid paralleling sleeve seam from wrist to elbow and forming a trefoil before returning to wrist and incorporating eleven small ball buttons. Although no collar insignia is present, a shadow of first lieutenant's bars may be seen, coat buttons are Federal staff buttons with backmark, "SUPERIOR QUALITY."
