The button and palmetto art contains buttons with the South Carolina State Seal and palmetto from the tree under which the South Carolina Ordinance of Secession was signed.

(A palmetto tree was placed on the stage at the Secession Convention and the Ordinance was signed under shadow of its branches.) ...
