Description The card basket and tobacco box is of paper and wood construction. The lower drawer is square with rounded corners and has black line etchings by Schuler on three sides, with an oval format polychrome landscape print on drawer front. A double six-sided container and tier for tobacco top the square with applied wallpaper decoration and red paper liner.

Provenance Julius Prufer made this card basket and tobacco box by hand and sent it to the Hon. Alexander H. H. Stuart of Staunton, Virginia, as a Christmas gift during the war. Prufer was a German who joined the Southern army and was killed, leaving a large family.
