Description This is one of six fruit plates (.168-.168e) and matching cake plate (.168f). Hard paste porcelain tea service of Lowestoft Oriental export, with a moss rose pattern with gilt glazed borders. Each fruit plate has a round foot. The fruit plates and cake plate match the tea service of (0985.7.169-.169f).

Provenance The fruit plates, cake plate, and tea service were used constantly by President and Mrs. Jefferson Davis while in residence at the Executive Mansion in Richmond, Virginia. Mrs. Mary O'Melia, the Davis' housekeeper, removed the china from the Mansion in 1865. Mrs. O'Melia kept the china until her death in 1906. She left it to her granddaughter, Kate G. Doyle.
