Provenance Donor history maintains that this sword and scabbard were carried by Capt. Zacheus Ellis of Massachusetts during the War of 1812 (which was not possible since the weapon was not manufactured until 1839). Afterwards, his son Capt. Charles D. Ellis used the same sword and scabbard during the Civil War.
