Event Battle of Gettysburg
Provenance "Frank A. Bond carried this sword and scabbard, issued by the State of Maryland to her state militia units in 1859. [though sword stamped with date 1860]. He carried it into Virginia in 1861, and used throughout the war. Capt. Bond was badly wounded and left in the hands of the enemy on retreat from Gettysburg in 1863. This sabre was saved by his brother, Sgt. Major Arthur W. Bond, 1st Maryland Infantry. When Capt. Frank Bond was exchanged in May 1864, he received back this sabre, which he carried in Early's Maryland Campaign and "at the attack on the National Capital."
