Material: wood (dark, fairly heavy).
Shape: rounded and octagonal shaped.
Markings/appearance: "JM Hawk" carved into the staff 28" from the butt end. Staff has apparently been hand shaved. Four encircling grooves have been cut into the staff. The first groove is 2 1/2" from the top of staff, the second groove is 24" below the top, the third is 46" below the top, and the fourth is 51" below the top. Three nail heads appear immediately above the lowest groove and two nail holes are apparent immediately beneath the top groove.
Finial: none; notched.
