|Description||Model 1860 U. S. Light Cavalry Saber: Blade only. With scabbard (.85a). Relic condition.|
|Owner Regiment||2nd Louisiana Cavalry, Co. B, "Pelican Greys"|
|Event||Battle of Malvern Hill|
This sword and scabbard belonged to Pvt. James Jamieson, who was a member of the "Pelican Greys," which became Co. B, 2nd Louisiana Cavalry. He volunteered at the age of 15, was the only son of a widowed mother of Ouachita parish, and was killed at Malvern Hill (presumably aged 16 or so).
[Note: research indicates that the 2nd Louisiana Cavalry was not present at the Battle of Malvern Hill (although the 2nd Louisiana Infantry was). No record of a Jamieson serving in the 2nd Louisiana Cavalry has been found. No James Jamieson (or Jameson, or Jamison, etc.) or widow of that surname is on the 1860 Census in Ouachita Parish. Thus the entire history associated with this artifact is suspect.]
