Provenance Piece of the flag that floated over Jackson Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, at the time of surrender.

The flag pattern could have been a Second National, or even a Third National; or, given the imminent threat of violence when Union troops entered the city, it could also have raised a white flag to show complete submission to avoid any problems with patients vs. Federals.
