Provenance Lt. Franklin Carter captured the Remington revolver from a Union soldier, whom he killed in a skirmish at Sangerville, Virginia. It was carried by Carter to the end of hostilities. Lt. J.G. Wiltshire assrts that Lt. Carter and he fired the last shots in the Civil War in Northern Virginia on April 10, 1865 in the fight near Burke's Station and Arundels Farm, Virginia.
