Interlining: Cotton batting.
Backing: White plain-weave cotton. Inscribed in ink along a cut edge: “TEX – 1958/MADE by Mrs. Julia Ward”

Mrs. Julia Ward of Jackson, Louisiana, made the cotton quilt from which this block comes. This block was cut from quilt and donated as example of the whole. Her daughter Mary married Wilson Clark Miller, a Confederate veteran, in 1873.
