Description Top: Diamond border (single block; fragmentary); patchwork. “Fan” quilting in center. Materials are plain-weave red, brown, and white cotton.
Interlining: Cotton batting.
Backing: White plain-weave cotton. Inscribed in ink along a cut edge: “TEX – 1958/MADE by Mrs. Julia Ward”
Binding: None.
Stitching: Hand.

Provenance Mrs. Julia Ward of Jackson, Louisiana, made the cotton quilt from which this block comes. This block was cut from quilt and donated as example of the whole. Her daughter Mary married Wilson Clark Miller, a Confederate veteran, in 1873.
