This canteen was used in 1864-1865 by D. A. S. Vaught of New Orleans.
Darrah Albert Shelby Vaught was born in Tennessee in 1846, and was later a New Orleans resident. It is possible that he is the original owner of this canteen, although no record of his service with the Washington Artillery has been found.
